The ‘A B C’ ribbon I found in Sham Shui Po. I held it to the cake stands with that blue gummy stuff.
We spelled out “Mitra is about to pop” with letters from Hocusadabra.
I made Nigella Lawson’s cappuccino and espresso cupcakes, which I thought was more than appropriate for a morning event. The letters are made from homemade fondant–my first fondant attempt! The secret really is to make sure its cold when you cut it–I rolled it out and left it in the refrigerator overnight.
My friend Diane of Ellermann Design really did an amazing job with the flowers. She took a torn up copy of her kid’s ‘The Little Hair’ and placed all the flowers in cones made from the pages.
It went perfectly with my Gien Oiseau blue china from my Aunt Steph.
She’s been giving me a piece or two for birthdays and Christmas for about a decade now and now I have enough to host a real event!
What about the food you ask?
We did a homemade yogurt and waffle bar so guests could help themselves.
I think the maple syrup ice cream was the highlight! (I made it without the maple extract.) And what about games you ask?
Well, personally, I’m not super into shower games so we played just one where every guest cuts a ribbon and attaches there name, guessing how big the mother-to-be is.
It was fun and got everyone involved, but didn’t take ages…. and leaves more time for sitting around and chatting!
For favors we stamped out guest’s names on little notebooks we’d gotten at a local stationery shop.
And guests also got to take home a flower cone!
Thank goodness for such wonderful friends!
