Once Upon A Table: Beer tasting

We recently went to a beer tasting put on by Once Upon A Table, which is a “secret supper club in HK.” Basically they’re a bunch of foodies who put on dinners or tasting every month or two.

I am always up for meeting new people and the Mr. loves beer so it was perfect.

Shreya made warm roast fennel and gouda cheese tarts–which were my personal menu highlight. The group’s mission statement is: “to put home cooking back on the menu, served up in the homes of Hong Kongers – no matter how big or small. Each event centers around a theme that tells a story through the menu and atmosphere.” Don’t you love it?

Although there were definitely a lot of ex-pats at the event, there were some locals too which was great. So important to escape the bubble!
This is Angie’s Whitefish Sashimi Bruschetta with coriander, red onion and lime juice. It was AMAZING.

The Once Upon A Table folks partnered with Jeff Boda of Foreign Devil Beers, a beer importing company worth checking out if you want to expand beyond Tsing Tao!
The Mr. has almost fully converted me to preferring beer over wine. First of all, it’s WAY cheaper. You can try the Mercedes of beers for the cost of a cheap bottle of wine.
We did beer pairings at our wedding which was a lot of fun so this tasting brought back good memories of that, too. The ladies had made their own jam (strawberry and pineapple ginger) which was divine!

Shreya and Angie who did most of the cooking.

They finished with a bang: homemade twix! Doesn’t that cold paper make it super special?

They paired it with a bottle of Rogue Chocolate Stout which was so yummy! I love dessert beers.

Lastly, we had a little of a 15 year old bottle of Sam Adams Triple Bock as a digestif. The perfect ending to the perfect afternoon!
