Remember my debate about the dining room table? Well now I really wish I lived in the Northeast! I happened across this awesome idea where you can go up to Vermont and make your own naked table at Shackleton Thomas out of Sugar Maples.
I think it’s a really fun idea, although it is the ultimate in yuppy excursions. It reminds me a little of the Outstanding in the Field dinner I dragged the Mr. and my aunt and uncle to–as cool as eating dinner in a field at a 100 person table sounded (and yes the pictures are beautiful), it ended up being such a racket!
After getting a lesson–literally–on how to drop a seed into the ground, we waiting ages for our decent, but not great, food in a swarm of mosquitoes.
But, I digress… what I really want is a handy Mr. like my MIL has, who can just make a table for you! But alas my Mr. is really not up to that — and certainly not in our apt here in HK! So I decided to go with a custom table from Thailand. A friend of ours turned us onto this family run business… you can specify exactly what stain you want on your solid teak, what style you prefer, and how big you want your table to be–we even opted for a nicely sized leaf. Bonus: although there is a one month wait (which doesn’t seem very long to me, considering its being custom made just for you in Thailand!), it’s very affordable.
So am I the only crazy person out there that really needs to visualize something to know how it will look? Here you can see me debating just how many people a 77 inch table will seat with or without a 12 inch leaf!
