We threw a fun party at NSS for our designers and would-be designers. I was tasked with taking care of the floral decor.
What fits in better with a fiesta than catci?! So I headed to Plantwerks NY.
For the middle of manhattan, they had an impressive cactus selection. I was so pleased to find so many pretty flowering catci.
Here are the ones I picked out for our centerpieces.
But the brown, plastic containers were less than appealing, so I headed to M&J Trimming to get some ribbon to wrap them up in.
This store is my HEAVEN!
Although it is not as inexpensive as Sham Shui Po, which I’ve blogged about before in HK, it’s a relief to know this depth of selection is available State-side.
They had just what I was looking for… plus a whole lot more!
Silk ribbon!!!! In every color and width. Sigh.
Then it was just a matter of attaching the ribbon to the pots; thank you hot glue gun.
I would really like to know what the hotels cleaning staff thought I was up to?!
I was really pleased with the end result… and a few local designers took home a nice collection of cacti! I was so happy they didn’t end up in the trash… I did sort of bond with them carting them all over Manhattan.
I also hot glued ribbon around simple vases that I put gerber daisies into. I found the flowers and vases for cheap negotiating in Chinatown… putting my HK skills to use!
The party looked as good as one can hope for a convention centre room!
And the margaritas helped liven things up, too!
You really can never underestimate the visual impact of one flower grouped in simple vases!
It was so great to see and also meet the designers; they’re really the highlight of working for Minted!
