Saints for Sinners medals.

It’s so hard to find religious icons that aren’t plastic or cheesy so I literally jumped for joy when I saw these Saints for Sinners medals at Loopy Mango.

The medals are from Italy and are hand-painted by a gentleman in New Orleans.

The shop girls dished that Bridesmaid’s Kirsten Wiig had stopped by to buy a ‘Saint Philoemena,’ who is the patron saint of infants, babies, toddlers, and safe childbirth medal for pregnant co-star Maya Rudolph. And she was already wearing a medal so she is a pretty big fan! Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Bruce Springsteen are also fans.

I can spend hours reading through all the different saints available on their site. There really is a saint for everything: fear of flying, addiction and 12 steps, fire fighters, sisters, x-ray technicians… you name it! These would make a wonderful gift for anyone starting or commencing a new vocation, whether that be starting a new job or having a baby or conquering a fear. You’re even allowed to order custom medals or a bracelet full of all your favorites.

By the way, the name comes from the line: “The saints are the sinners who keep on trying.” I like it.

  1. Wow – this post is pretty cool – so, it’s Maya Rudolph AND Kristin Wiig who liked our SaintsforSinners medals at LOOPY MANGO, after all. I had it all mixed up! But that should not surprise you – I created years ago and I am now, a “man of a certain age,” who messes up the details from time to time! But my heart is in the right place – thanks for publicizing our hand-painted saint medals. I’m “verklempt!” ;o) rob clemenz @ SaintsforSinners

  2. I just wanted to say that I am so glad the Saints For Sinners medals are finally getting the world wide attention they so deserve!! I have been wearing and sharing them for many years now…hell even the Boss has them on his guitars!!
These little pieces of hope and faith and love are just the thing for a gift when you just aren’t sure what to give. After all, everybody can always use a little Hope, Faith And Love. Keep on Believing!

  3. Stunning craftsmanship! These medals have brought me so much joy, comfort, and protection for years now. So happy to see them getting the attention they deserve.

  4. Hooray for SaintsforSinners! I love that there is a saint for everything. Though it threw my Jewish family for a loop, I wear my medals all of the time. I think they transcend religion. And good job using “verklempt,” Rob!

  5. I love those medals! Thanks for mentioning them. I’ll have to stop by Loopy Mango and check them out.

  6. I also purchased a Philomena for my sister! I’ve used these as gift tags on Christmas gifts in the past; everyone loves them.

One note though: Rob is far from an “older gentleman”! If he’s older, than I’m ancient, and I know that’s not the case. 🙂

  7. These are truly works of art. I am inspired when I wear mine!

  8. My grandmother, a saint in her own right, was named for Saint Rita. Her son, daughters and several grandchildren wear Saint Rita medals – hand painted by Saint For Sinners. Each of us is a ‘sinner who keep on trying’ and carry Rita with us in our hearts. I was wearing my medal while visiting Barcelona this past spring. When I entered an ancient Church and was pushed into a corner by a procession, I was welcomed but not surprised by an icon of St. Rita. I reached up to the medal that hung around my neck and knew I was where I supposed to be. thank you Saint For Sinners for allowing me to take Saint Rita with me where ever I go.

  9. We LOVE Saints for Sinners at our house! All of my children, minus our newest addition, have a medal or two or three! Rob even specially crafter a set of St. Sebastian medals for my sons football team, painting them in their school colors. Such a great memory for a group of boys that won the city championship as a CYO team who knelt and prayed together after every practice and every game.

Rob does an amazing job with the stories and making your medal the most important one he has ever done, at least until he paints the next one! What a wonderful product, company and founder! May Saints for Sinners continue to be blessed as they are a blessing to all of us.

P.S. Laughed, very loudly, out loud when I read “older gentleman”! Sorry Rob! It helps ease my pain of being referred to for 9 months as a “Mother of advanced maternal age”.

  10. I love Saints for Sinners medals. I have shared them many family and friends. I have also encountered many people outside of New Orleans that where Saints for Sinners medals as symbols of true inspiration!

  11. I love Rob’s medals (I have 2) and will certainly be buying more in the future.

Oh, and Rob isn’t what I’d consider an older gentleman :^)

  13. Great to hear there are so many fans of ‘Saints for Sinners’. I can’t stop wearing my medals!! Very cool, too, that Rob, the artisan stopped by my humble blog. Thank you!! And my apologies for describing you as older having never met you… now I’m not even sure why I got that other than I thought you’d been doing these medals for a really long time!

  14. So glad to see this blog recognizing Saints for Sinners! I have had two medals for many years. They bring me comfort to wear and I get many compliments. Keep spreading the word about the unique beauty of Saints for Sinners medals!

  15. I love my Saints for Sinners St. Thomas Aquinas medal. I was lucky enough to win it in the New Orleans Jazz Fest Threadhead Raffle and I’m glad I did. It was very hard deciding which Saint to pick but, being a nerd, I finally decided on St. Thomas Aquinas. I continue to hope that “Saint Thomas Aquinas will help you gather clear understanding and find true intellectual integrity.”
