Earlier this summer I had the great honor of attending my friend Kelly’s wedding shower where Kate, her sister and maid-of-honor, gave her the most thoughtful gift that I just have to share with you.
Inside two adorable picnic baskets were bottles of wine and champagne that coordinated with a lovely celebratory poem instructing the new couple to open each bottle for various milestones: wedding night, honeymoon, birthdays, thanksgiving, first anniversary, first baby.
So for example for the groom’s birthday she included a six-pack of his favorite beer with the following instructions:
October 26th Kevin’s birthday is here!
Time to celebrate his 32nd year!
You’ll probably wonder what to get for a gift.
And this may help give his spirits a lift.
Here’s to the groom’s big 32,
We all really know that his best gift is you!
And for Valentine’s day she found (who knows how!) a bottle covered in pink hearts!
Chocolate hearts and candy kisses
It’s your first Valentine’s day as Mr. and Mrs.
Have a romantic dinner and share in this wine.
You’ll look at each other and both say, “Be Mine.”
Enjoy this day that celebrates lovers
And we’ll leave the rest to under the covers
And for first baby:
The news that a baby will soon share your life
Will make you a mother, not only a wife
You’ll see the child through good times and bad,
Kelly the loving mother and Kevin the fun dad!
Kevin must drink this one alone, Kelly with an empty
But don’t worry, dear Kelly, the nine months quickly pass!
Not surprisingly this thoughtful gift was for my dear friend Kelly, who gave me the awesome candle basket at my wedding shower–each set of candles is to be lit at various milestones: first married night, first fight (and make-up), first Christmas, first baby, etc. Read more about it here.
Since this idea is beyond adorable, I thought some of you might be interested in re-creating it for a special bride in your life. Click here to download Kate’s awesome poem–and then make it your own.
