La Cornue ovens.

Here in Hong Kong, most apartments don’t have ovens because Chinese cooking is wok-based. Should you want bread or a cookie, you would go around to your corner bakery–there are so many here. But Westerners be warned: Asians are not used to sugar so cake here is not sweet at all by our standards. Oven sizes are also not standard here because apartments are so small and are often walk-ups. Anyways, all this oven talk reminds me of my dream ovens: La Cornue.

La Cornue is 100 years old and spans three generations, which is pretty amazing. They only make a couple of Chateaux (the yellow one) a year and they’re all  assembled by hand and by one person, who micro-manages every last detail. They say on their site, “Even if you happen to be the Queen of England, you will have to wait at least two months for your Château La Cornue.”

They do have a more reasonable line of normal sized stoves, the CornuFe 110 for $9k, that are delivered immediately. So although it’s still a dream oven… a little more reasonable than one with a rotisserie oven and a dozen warming drawers! It has five powerful gas burners, two electric convection ovens. Some girls dream about fancy dresses, I dream about ranges… what can I say?! Picking a color for your entire kitchen makes picking your color of Kitchen Aid look like child’s play, but I think the turquoise (below) would be my color of choice!

  1. Wow! I think that the deep blue with the gold might be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen!

  2. Oh my gosh! I’ve never heard of this brand, thank you for introducing it to me. Is it shallow that I want one even though I don’t even cook?

Not at all! Not only are they incredibly awesome to cook with, but they are also the most amazing kitchen decor I’ve ever seen.

  4. Natasha, the apartment we are renting in Denver has one of these! While it isn’t a fun color, it is awesome for cooking and baking and I fear that it has ruined me for future stoves.

  5. Those are some of the most lovely, inspiring ovens I have ever seen!
