Tablecloths and plant misters.

While we were in Shanghai last weekend, we had a late lunch at the Ritz… and then of course we gabbed so much that we ran into their shift change. Now, the Ritz has a LOT of tablecloths that need to be perfectly ironed.

So I was very interested in their technique… although I press my tablecloths, they are of course wrinkled from being folded for months before use. Same at the Ritz (although more like days between use). As it turns out, they simply spray down the tablecloths with a very fine plant mister.

If┬ánecessary, you can slightly warm the water. Then you simply run your hand over the cloth to smooth out the folds. Isn’t that brilliant? It beats my current method which is plugging the iron in and then running it over the table, plugging it in again, running it back…

Terrain’s plant mister (above) looks like it would do the trick perfectly–it retails for $20.
