Tag Archives: Walmart in China

The Mr. recently went to China to check out Wal-Mart there–they have 284 stores there. They opened their first store there in 1996 and now employ over 50,000 people. Here were some crazy melons for sale.

The Chinese are very wary of food from China–they’re very distrustful of their own government after things like the Melamine milk scare. Wal-Mart is positioning itself as not neccessarily the cheapest place to buy things, but the safest, calling itself “Trust-Mart.”

This one Wal-Mart sells on average seven alligators a week—how crazy is that??!! They go for 150 rmb per half kilo. Do you think they make bags out of the skin after they eat them? The Chinese are very resourceful…

They’ve also built so much team spirit! The Chinese really love working here. You just have to watch this video the Mr. shot of the┬áThe Wal-Mart Cheer. Every store has its own cheer and they start each day with it.
