Can’t live without: Beauty edition.

I can’t stand beauty sections in magazines. I feel like they’re just full of product placement without any real recommendations or tips.

When you live abroad, you can’t easily find all of the brands you used back home so you get more flexible… but you also realize what you actually care about! And I have to say Kiehl’s Extremely Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover is my No. 1 beauty product. (And lucky me: there are Kiehl’s stores in HK, but of course Amazon has the best price.) I can switch mascara. I can even vary my toothpaste brand. But I have yet to find anything that takes off smoky eyes as easily or comfortably as this stuff… it moisturizes the eye area and yet isn’t oily or greasy. Please, don’t be shy! Share your knowledge with us! What is your No. 1, ‘Can’t live without’ beauty product?

  1. I cannot live without my eyebrow powder by Cover Girl and Lash Extreme Mascara. LOVE it!

  2. Being frizzy of hair, I simply cannot do without my Fructis Crunchy Curls gel. Really and truly. You wouldn’t want to see me without it.

  3. Dior Airflash Spray foundation. . .it’s the flawless skin that I’ll never have! (Sprayed onto a brush and applied, not directly out of the can).

  4. My mom turned me on the Merle Norman creamy flo-matic mascara. She has been using it ever since she was 15 and worked at a Merle Norman makeup counter. Its the best! I’ve tried other mascaras in the past and they just don’t compare. This mascara goes on smoothly and never clumps! I love it.

  5. OK so I won’t say that this is an item I *can’t live without,* since I only just got started on it. But so far (I’m still in the trail stage) it seems to be the answer for making makeup stay put. For me, this is an issue, since eyeshadow doesn’t last more than an hour or two on me and liner fades by the end of the day… even with a base.
It’s called “Model in a Bottle” and it’s a spritz that you apply after finishing your makeup routine, sealing it all on with a bit of a glossy polish. The application is definitely tricky, but if you get it right it’s pretty awesome. My makeup really does last for hours and hours and the perfume glean is kindof an added bonus (although you have to be careful that you don’t end up too shiny, looking like plastic). I find the presentation hilarious: http://www.modelinabottle.com/
I started it because I found a coupon code in an InStyle magazine. Generally this is outside my makeup budget… although it’s an investment to make all my other makeup worth its price, so there’s a tradeoff!

  6. I have been meaning to send this to you for ages. I found the recommendation on Goop.com and it is truly amazing! Bioderma make-up remover. So gentle and not oily. And its good for sensitive skin. Actually I tried a few of the other products and they are all good. http://goop.com/newsletter/114/ I love the dry shampoo for humid HK days.
